Gavin adds another certification under its belt
YORK, PA (30 October 2019) — Gavin™, a digitally minded public relations and marketing agency with offices in York and Harrisburg, recently obtained its Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) certification from the state Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and the Pennsylvania Unified Certification Program.
DBE is a company-level diversity certification that is issued by the state to level the playing field by providing small businesses owned and controlled by socially and economically disadvantaged individuals a fair opportunity to compete for work on federally funded transportation contracts.
To qualify for DBE certification, a business must meet the following requirements:
- Be a small business as defined by SBA size standards.
- Be 51% owned by one or more individuals who are socially and economically disadvantaged.
- Management and daily business operations must be controlled by one or more of the socially and economically disadvantaged individuals who own it.
This certification allows Gavin to pursue contracts with partners in the transportation industry. Specifically, it positions Gavin to be selected by prime contractors or consultants who need a certain percentage of DBE subcontractor work to meet their project contract goals. The DBE certification also provides small businesses with automatic eligibility in the state’s Small Business Enterprise (SBE) and Diverse Business (DB) programs, which opens up additional opportunities to participate on state-funded transportation contracts.
Gavin is already certified as a Women’s Business Enterprise by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) and a Women Owned Small Business by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).
