Follow Friday the Film continues to blow the Twitterverse’s mind by demonstrating the true power of social media. This weekend, in less than 3 hours, tweeps raised more than $8,000 after Newark Mayor Cory Booker agreed to be interviewed for the film and match all donations made, which will go towards Uncommon Schools.
It all started when Twitter user @cdiemnj tweeted Booker to say, “if you let @erinscafe interview you for #ffthefilm I will personally donate $140 to the charity of your choice.” After Booker agreed to match any funds, tweet donations started flying in from across the country.
Booker personally responded to many of the tweets and got in on the fun, telling donors to “make it hurt so good.” He kept it casual, telling @FF_TheFilm to “please drop the sir, Its Saturday, I’m Cory or Ms. Jackson if your…” (we’ll ignore any grammar mistakes when a politician makes a Janet Jackson reference!) An avid tweeter, Booker understands what a great social media presence can do for his “brand.” Kudos to him for using his twitter powers for good!
