5 SEO Myths That Are Just Plain Wrong

What should I believe?

In the world of search engine optimization (SEO), there are an incredible amount of misconceptions. It’s impressive how rumors start about SEO tactics and then businesses and marketers take them and run…fast.

With so much confusion around SEO in general, SEO myths are easily believed. Here are a few myths debunked to save you the worry.

SEO MYTH #1: SEO is a one-time quick fix that will continue to deliver results

SEO takes time and patience. Results are not seen right away and that can deter some companies from investing the time and money. SEO is not a one-time thing, it needs to be checked up on every so often because of the factors involved in it. This also means that your content needs to be updated regularly to keep things fresh. Links can become dead and outdated, leading to a decrease in rank. Your site will thank you for keeping up with and continuing to develop SEO.

SEO MYTH #2: Keywords are the be all and end all

Keywords are important, that is something we cannot argue with, but there are more important things than keywords, especially if those keywords are being abused. While it’s great to optimize content with keywords, it can be overdone. Even though keyword stuffing is penalized by Google, using too many keywords on a page is just annoying. A ranking is great and all, but if your users can’t stand to read your content, is it worth it? Try and use keywords successfully and purposefully without being a nuisance.

SEO MYTH #3: PPC is related to SEO

No, just because you’re paying Google for your ads (pay-per-click or PPC) does not mean that your website is going to do better organically. Google isn’t going to help you out because you’re pouring money into a specific ad or campaign. There are a number of other factors that help boost where you appear in a google search like having a great landing page. If you’re losing money by putting too many funds behind campaigns and not seeing results, try to re-evaluate your SEO strategy first.

SEO MYTH #4: Social media doesn’t have an impact on SEO

Social media does not have a direct link to SEO but being on and involved in social sites is a great addition to SEO. There are a number of things that social media creates that can create a correlation with SEO.

For example, social media creates links. If you know SEO, you know links are extremely important. Social media in general also creates brand awareness which can drive more searches to your site. All-in-all it is definitely worth putting the time and effort in to develop and update social media.

and last but not least…

SEO MYTH #5 SEO isn’t real

SEO is kind of like bigfoot. Some people believe in it and some people don’t but here’s where SEO and bigfoot differ: there is very concrete evidence that SEO exists. Time and time again, SEO has proved that it does help drive traffic and conversions. If the internet is around, SEO will be around and very much alive.
